Những giải Oscar đó đã được trao bên trong Nhà hát Dolby từ 4-5 giờ chiều (giờ địa phương), trước khi truyền hình trực tiếp, với các phát biểu nhận giải được ghi lại và biên tập đưa vào chương trình phát sóng. Oscar trao giải 23 hạng mục, từ phim hay nhất đến đạo diễn xuất sắc nhất, cùng với hạng mục diễn xuất và hạng mục tay nghề bao gồm âm thanh, thiết kế phim, trang điểm và tạo mẫu tóc đẹp nhất và hiệu ứng hình ảnh tốt nhất. Năm nay, hạng mục Phim đại chúng hay nhất đã quay lại, sẽ công nhận một bộ phim do người hâm mộ bình chọn trên Twitter — không chừng mới là màn hồi hộp thực sự của đêm trao giải.

DJ Khaled đã giới thiệu bộ ba người dẫn chương trình đêm trọng đại — Regina Hall, Amy Schumer và Wanda Sykes.

Schumer nói đùa: “Năm nay Viện Hàn lâm đã thuê ba phụ nữ để dẫn chương trình vì như vậy rẻ hơn so với thuê một ông.”
