Khi Jimmy Kimmel chủ trì Lễ trao giải Oscar thường niên lần thứ 96 tại Nhà hát Dolby ở Los Angeles, mọi con mắt đều đổ dồn vào Oppenheimer của Universal. Bộ phim tiểu sử nổ tung này sẽ lấy được bao nhiêu chiếc cúp vào tối chủ nhật 10 tháng 3 (giờ Hoa Kỳ)?

Oppenheimer đã thống trị đề cử các hạng mục chính, gồm phim hay nhất, đạo diễn xuất sắc nhất, nam diễn viên chính xuất sắc nhất, nam diễn viên phụ xuất sắc nhất, nữ diễn viên phụ xuất sắc nhất và quay phim xuất sắc nhất. Tổng cộng 13 đề cử, dẫn đầu danh sách.

Phim toàn thắng tất cả hạng mục quan trọng, đầu tiên là Robert Downey Jr. đoạt giải nam diễn viên phụ xuất sắc nhất cho vai diễn trong Oppenheimer, như nhiều người đã dự đoán. Sau đó tiếp tục lấy nam chính, đạo diễn, quay phim và tượng vàng Oscar phim hay nhất được thèm muốn nhất mùa giải.

Trong khi đó, Poor Things của Searchlight có tổng cộng 11 đề cử và đã thắng ba giải Oscar cho hóa trang và tạo mẫu tóc đẹp nhất, dựng phim và thiết kế trang phục đẹp nhất.

Những tên tuổi lớn khác đáng chú ý là Killers of the Flower Moon của Apple, được 10 đề cử và Barbie của Warner Bros. với 8 đề cử.

Barbie đã giành được chiến thắng đầu tiên cho ca khúc trong phim hay nhất, “What Was I Made For?” của Billie Eilish và Finneas O’Connell.

Da’Vine Joy Randolph đã thắng giải Oscar đầu tiên của đêm, giải nữ diễn viên phụ xuất sắc nhất cho vai diễn quản lý căng tin trường nội trú thương tiếc cái chết của con trai bà trong Chiến tranh Việt Nam trong phim The Holdovers của Alexander Payne.

Hạng mục nữ diễn viên chính xuất sắc nhất dự kiến sẽ là một cuộc đua sít sao. Lily Gladstone (Killers of the Flower Moon) và Emma Stone (Poor Things) đã toàn thắng trong suốt mùa giải thưởng năm nay. Nếu Gladstone chiến thắng, cô sẽ là người Mỹ bản địa đầu tiên giành được giải Oscar diễn xuất mang tính cạnh tranh trong lịch sử 96 năm của buổi lễ.
